WHY SHOULD I CARE WHETHER MY ORTHODONTIST IS BOARD CERTIFIED?

At Feinberg Orthodontics we are passionate about the care that we provide to our family of patients. Our mission is to create healthy, beautiful smiles that last them a lifetime. We have a very unique, progressive practice that is dedicated to high-quality treatment. Our patients receive personalized care where customized treatment plans are designed for each patient using Suresmile technology. Suresmile is the most sophisticated diagnostic orthodontic software in the world, and our patients are the beneficiaries. Specifically, they benefit from shorter treatment times with higher quality results and the highest safety profile. We also take pride in the fact that Dr. Feinberg is an orthodontist who is board certified – but we realize that for many of our patients, that term is a mystery. Rest assured, though: it’s an important qualification, and it gives you the peace of mind of knowing that your child will receive the best care.

What Is a Board Certified Orthodontist? A board certified orthodontist is an orthodontist who has voluntarily gone through hundreds of additional hours of preparation to demonstrate their judgment, skills and knowledge required for providing the highest level of patient care. They have achieved board certification through the American Board of Orthodontics the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association and in affiliation with the American Association of Orthodontists.

An orthodontist is a dentist who has not only completed a graduate program in dentistry to receive their DDS or DMD (Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine), but has also gone through a competitive residency at an orthodontic program for an additional 2-3 years to be trained specifically in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

If an orthodontist is board certified, they’ve completed not only traditional college and dental school, but an additional 2-year postdoctoral program dedicated to the specialty of orthodontics. This means that in all, a board certified orthodontist has gone through 10 years of schooling to earn their certification! Board certification also means that the orthodontist has been evaluated by the board and earned their “stamp of approval”. This is an extremely rigorous process that entails both written and oral examinations, case presentations and years of preparation.

Orthodontist You Can Trust But beyond the years of training, certifications, and exams, board certification denotes an orthodontist you can trust. A board certified orthodontist is dedicated to achieving excellence and committed to the health and well-being of their patients, and you can trust that they’ll bring their expertise to bear in helping patients achieve a beautiful smile and healthy bite. Board certification isn’t just a stamp or a piece of paper: it’s a powerful symbol of professional competence and dedication.
